Homemade Peppermint Cooling Spray With Essential Oils

Essential oil do it yourself peppermint cooling spray

There are many things to love about summertime...swimming, flip-flops, friends, family, watermelon, vacation, lightning bugs, and ice cream, just to name a few. However, two things not on that list are excessive heat and humidity! Rather than hibernate inside next to the air conditioner, whip up a quick batch of Homemade Peppermint Cooling Spray...AKA air conditioning in a bottle! This simple and natural spray will keep you cool, refreshed, and able to beat the late summer heat!

Homemade Peppermint Cooling Spray Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tablespoons Witch Hazel – astringent that is cooling and great for skin
  • 2 Tablespoons Distilled Water – dilutes the witch hazel, saves money
  • 4 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil – contains menthol which has powerful natural cooling properties
  • 4 Drops Lavender Essential Oil – soothing & calming for skin, plus smells great
  • 2 Ounce Glass Spray Bottle

Instructions:

  1. Pour distilled water and witch hazel into a small 2 oz spray bottle.
  2. Add peppermint and lavender essential oils.
  3. Shake well to combine.
  4. Refrigerate (optional)

How to use Cooling Spray:

  • Spray on tired achy feet to revive and refresh.
  • Spray on the back of neck and chest to cool down.
  • Spray on this minty freshness whenever you need it
  • While you can store this at room temperature, we recommend refrigerating for extra cooling power.
  • Bugs do not like peppermint essential oil! Spray on to keep bugs away.

Using Caution:

Do not spray on face or anywhere near eyes. If cooling spray gets into eyes, dilute the area immediately with a carrier oil (like olive oil or coconut oil). Do this by placing the vegetable oil on a Kleenex and gently wiping the eye area. Repeat as necessary.

Do not use too much peppermint essential oil. Peppermint is a strong essential oil and it only takes a few drops to get the cooling effect. If you use too much, you may experience a burning sensation. If this happens, rub a carrier oil (like olive oil, coconut oil, or almond oil) over the skin that is affected. The carrier oil will dilute the essential oil and soothe the skin.

Use caution around young children and pets. Because this spray uses peppermint essential oil, it’s best to not use it on or around young children.
