Essential oils for Insomnia
Insomnia is the inability to obtain sufficient sleep, especially when chronic; difficulty in falling or staying asleep; sleeplessness. If you’ve ever been in bed trying to sleep, tossing and turning for what seems like the entire night, it’s likely that you’ve experienced at least some level of insomnia.
Insomniacs can either have trouble getting to sleep, or can wake up multiple times throughout the night, never really getting any solid rest. And when they do actually get to sleep, it’s only for a short period of time and is fitful, giving in to mental and physical exhaustion throughout their waking days.
Lack of sleep has detrimental effects on many aspects of a person’s wake time. This means that lavender can help with relaxation; it can relieve pain symptoms, enhance blood circulation, disinfect the skin, and treat respiratory problems. Even the name lavender comes from the latin word “Lavare”, which means “to wash”, derived from its particularly clean aroma.
Roman Chamomile Oil – Roman Chamomile oil is an ancient herb that can help with your sleeplessness caused from chronic stress, headaches or nervous disorders. It is a great choice to help you relax and prepare for sleep. Chamomile can also aid the efficiency of your digestive function, making this oil especially handy when suspecting that your sleeplessness might also have a relation to some digestive problems. Combined with Lavender above, Roman Chamomile Oil is a powerful and effective choice of a natural sleep aid treatment.
Sweet Marjoram Oil – Sweet Marjoram oil is said to have a calming and sedating action on the nervous system, which can certainly help when trying to go to sleep. Valerian Oil – Valerian oil may not have the same reputation as chamomile or lavender when it comes to promoting sleep, but it's actually been used to ease insomnia since the 17th century. Utilizing this oil can help you not only fall asleep faster but also actually improve the quality of your sleep. Deeper rest means a satisfying slumber that leaves you energized in the morning.
Neroli Oil – Neroli oil is an often overlooked essential oil for sleep, but we're looking to change that. The oil is extracted from the blossom of a bitter orange tree, and its spicy, citric scent makes it a popular ingredient in perfumes. One study noted neroli's ability to produce a calming effect, particularly when combined with lavender oil and chamomile. It's also effective on its own in reducing stress and blood pressure levels, particularly in women.
Cedarwood Oil – Cedarwood oil is one of the most grounding essential oils you can use, cedarwood has a comforting, woodsy scent that is perfectly at place in a diffuser before bedtime to help you drift off. The use of essential oils for remedies of ailments was recorded by Chinese scholars between 2067 and 2597 BC. However, probably the most common place we read about essential oils is in the Bible. Essential oils are mentioned over two hundred times in the New Testament and Old Testament of the Bible.
how do essential oils work?
If you are a beginner to essential oils, there are three primary ways essential oils enter the body: applied to the skin, inhaled, or ingested. When choosing the right method to use essential oils, always keep in mind the desired result you are wanting and then determine the best application for use. Essential oils can enter the body by being applied to the skin. This method can vary from using a compress, gargling, bath or even massage. It requires several drops of essential oils to be used topically in some manner. It is important to note that most essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin without being diluted.
While people inhale and diffuse essential oils for a variety of reasons, it has been shown that inhalation is most effective and best suited to treat a variety of respiratory complaints. Ingestion of essential oils has had much controversy, I suggest you do the proper research yourself and use safe practices. Cases of death, organ failure and hospitalization in the history of aromatherapy have been caused by ingesting essential oils.

These healing oils are rapidly growing in popularity because they act as natural medicine without side effects. It is excellent when included in mouthwash recipes, particularly if you suffer from sore, inflamed gums.
