Essential oils for Hair Growth
Thinning hair can be caused by a lot of internal and external factors including stress, poor diet, washing your hair with tap water which contains chlorine, poor hygiene, dandruff & other skin inflammatory conditions, among others. A study on hair loss treatment found in the Archives of Dermatology found that applying & massaging a mixture of cedarwood essential oil, thyme essential oil, lavender essential oil and rosemary essential oils promoted hair growth after consistent use over several months.
Hair Growth Massage Oil
-5ml drops jojoba or argan oil
-8 drops rosemary essential oil
Combine your carrier oil with your rosemary essential oil using your fingertips rhythmically massage the oil into your scalp and roots. Start from the front of your scalp then move to the sides and finally the back of your head.
Combine the thyme essential oil, cedarwood essential oil, lavender essential oil, rosemary essential oil, jojoba and grapeseed oils in a small mixing bowl. Massage the mixture into your scalp for at least two minutes once per day. Wrap your head in a warm towel for 30 minutes after the treatment for best results. The jojoba and grapeseed oils act as a carrier, penetrating and carrying the essential oils into the hair follicles. This treatment resulted in success during clinical trials, with most patients experiencing regrowth of over half of their hair and a few experiencing complete regrowth.
Stimulate circulation to the scalp by combining 6 drops each lavender and bay essentials oils with 4 ounces of warm sesame oil, then massage the mixture into your scalp. Allow the mixture to penetrate the scalp for at least 20 minutes before shampooing. For faster results, add 3 drops of bay essential oil to your shampoo before washing your hair. Rinse as usual.
Make a nighttime hair loss treatment by combining 4 ounces of apple cider vinegar with 20 drops of carrot essential oil and 10 drops of rosemary essential oil. Dilute 1 tbsp. of the mixture with 1 tbsp. ice-cold water and massage into your scalp before bed. Wash and rinse your hair as usual in the morning. Aromatherapist Valerie Ann Worwood, author of “The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy,” recommends using this treatment every night.
