Essential oils for Fever

About Fevers

Fever is a temporary rise in body temperature.

Contrary to popular belief, it is not an illness but is actually a symptom.

A person is said to have a fever if his or temperature goes above 37.5 degrees C (99.5 degrees F).

There are other ailments that can come along with fever. These can be a pain in different parts of the body. For children, fever can even trigger febrile seizures. If it does so then it is worrying, to say the least. On the other hand, for adults, symptoms like vomiting, a splitting headache can be worrying as well along with the fever. However, fever is a good thing too. It is because it is the body’s way of fighting off bacteria and viruses that cause infections inside the body.

Apart from rise in body temperature, the fever has other accompanying symptoms such as chills, sweating, headache, and muscle pain.

It is in the hypothalamus or the “body’s thermostat” where fever is said to take place. This part of the brain is in charge of regulating the body temperature.

When you have a fever, it means that the body is trying to combat diseases like common cold, flu, cough, tonsilitis, ear infection, chickenpox, urinary tract infection and so on.

Once you’ve resolved whatever it is causing the fever, your body temperature will go down immediately.

So, if you’d like to lower the fever, you can try using these essential oils which have been proved as both safe and effective. Lowering fever will not only make you less prone to having a febrile seizure but also make you feel better.

Q & A About Fever:

Q. Apart from home remedies, what specific medicines should I use to treat a fever?
A. Generally speaking, fever may be treated using antipyretics drugs. These are usually known as acetaminophen or paracetamol in many countries. It is best recommended that adults can take aspirin for fever. However, children should never be given aspirin as it may harm their young body. Other drugs that can are alternate to paracetamol is ibuprofen and diclofenac.

Q. Does fever cause any type of seizure in children?
A. Yes. It sometimes does. It is known as a febrile seizure.

Q. What is a febrile seizure?
A. A febrile seizure usually occurs in children who are 6 months to 6 years old. The reason it happens is because of the rapid change in the body temperature. As alarming as it may sound, it does not cause any brain damage thankfully. However, you should still be careful when giving your child a cool bath during fever, as it may cause the seizure to happen.

Q. When is fever a sign of an underlying serious illness?
A. Fever accompanied by other symptoms can be a sign of more serious illness. For example, if children are continuously vomiting along with the fever, then it is best to seek medical help as soon as possible. Also, fever lasting longer than three days means you should be worried.

On the other hand, for adults, running a fever of more than 103 F is alarming. Plus, if you are running that high fever for multiple days, then seek medical help immediately. It is because with this high fever along with a severe headache, unusual sensitivity to bright light can mean that there is an underlying medical condition that is worrying. So do not haste!

Even though essential oils have been around for thousands of years, we can enjoy the direct benefits of using essential oils today; through healing properties occurring naturally through the extracted plant substance.

What Are Essential OilsEssential oils have been recorded throughout history to be used to enhance spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental health. The Egyptians were referenced as using cinnamon, myrrh, sandalwood, and frankincense as early as 4500 BC. Scholars in India developed the science of Ayurveda around 3000 BC. These people relied on essential oils in potions using some of today’s favorites, such as ginger and cinnamon.

The use of essential oils for remedies of ailments was recorded by Chinese scholars between 2067 and 2597 BC. However, probably the most common place we read about essential oils is in the Bible. Essential oils are mentioned over two hundred times in the New Testament and Old Testament of the Bible.

how do essential oils work?

If you are a beginner to essential oils, there are three primary ways essential oils enter the body: applied to the skin, inhaled, or ingested. When choosing the right method to use essential oils, always keep in mind the desired result you are wanting and then determine the best application for use. Essential oils can enter the body by being applied to the skin. This method can vary from using a compress, gargling, bath or even massage. It requires several drops of essential oils to be used topically in some manner. It is important to note that most essential oils should not be applied directly to the skin without being diluted.

While people inhale and diffuse essential oils for a variety of reasons, it has been shown that inhalation is most effective and best suited to treat a variety of respiratory complaints. Ingestion of essential oils has had much controversy, I suggest you do the proper research yourself and use safe practices. Cases of death, organ failure and hospitalization in the history of aromatherapy have been caused by ingesting essential oils.

Why Diffuse Essential Oils

benefits of essential oils

Essential oil benefits come from their antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. These healing oils are rapidly growing in popularity because they act as natural medicine without side effects. In fact, Clove essential oil is so useful as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic that it has been approved for use as a dental anesthetic by the American Dental Association. It is excellent when included in mouthwash recipes, particularly if you suffer from sore, inflamed gums.

While people traditionally see a doctor for an illness and get a prescription drug, many others have awoken to the fact that essential oils can be used in a powerful way, when it comes to healing and supporting the body’s emotional and physical well-being. The biggest question is what oil will work for my body the best. Because we are not all the same, essential oils do not function the same for each of us. If you are looking for a way to reduce the number of chemicals you use in your home, making your own products with essential oils is an excellent choice.
